General Notes for steganography

Computer steganography is based on two principles. The first one is that the files that contain digitized images or sound can be altered to a certain extend without loosing their functionality unlike other types of data that have to be exact in order to function properly. The other principle (LSB) deals with the human inability to distinguish minor changes in image color or sound quality, which is especially easy to make use of in objects that contain redundant information, be it 16-bit sound, 8-bit or even better 24-bit image. Speaking of images, changing the value of the least significant bit of the pixel color won’t result in any perceivable change of that color.

Easy Memo is using the LSB method, but before the data will be stored in the picture, the data will be encrypted with a 128 bit key.

For highest security you can select a personal password for encrypting.

 

Save data in a picture

You can store every loaded memo with the
"save as.." menue as a steganography file. Select the .bmp or the .png file format.

The picture will be stored under the filename with all your data. You can use the personal password function with steganography too. passwort verwaltung mit easy memo passwort manager

If you start Easy Memo the next time, this picture with all your data will be loaded.

Note: If you send the picture by e-mail or store them in the internet, be sure to use the .png format.

Load data from picture

Select the .bmp or .png file extension in the file load dialogue. Easy Memo scan the loaded picture for data.
Be sure to have the same settings while save the data in the picture. (see options for Steganography)

Note:
Contains the picture no data, Easy Memo hold the current data in memory. If you want, you can store now this data in the loaded picture.

You can store every steganography file in a normal Easy Memo file if you use the "save as" menue again.

EasyMemo loads .jrm, .bmp and .png directly from the internet. load Memo.

Options for Steganography

Easy Memo can see your stored data in pictures. Every user of Easy Memo can find your data, if he know about them. If the data was stored without a personal password the user can read out all the data.

Please use the stegano password option to store high security data. This will hide the data entry for all user without the correct password.

In the start folder of easy memo you can load a example picture with data. The picture was saved without "personal password" and without stegano password option. All Easy Memo users can load this data.
